Foolproof Gift Guide for Kids

There are 2 seasons that tend to be heavy gifting seasons for us: Summer and Winter! And while our family has been on a journey to declutter toys, I have been puzzled with what to gift other people.

Do they even want another toy that will be played with for a week or 2 and then forgot about?

Sure the toys are often the quick hits, but when the party is all over… what does your child actually use? Or what do you actually want to use as a family?

When compiling a birthday list for my own son I realized that he tends to gravitate towards 2 things:

  1. Books

  2. Building activities, experiments and crafts

Activities that we can do together and build connection. Activities that parents can pull out on a rainy day!

So for the last 2 birthday parties we have attended, I followed my own 3-part gifting system: a book, an activity book and a STEM related “toy” that follows a theme the child is interested in.

Of course you don’t have to gift all 3 items. Even 1 or 2 of them are great!
