4 Tips for Getting Your Homeschool Day Started (with Ease!)

“How do you even get your homeschool day started?”

This is one of the most common questions I receive when people find out that I homeschool my current 5 year old and 2 year old.

I totally get it, it took me long time to find my groove. It’s easy for the kids to want to keep playing with their toys or ask to watch a show…

That’s when I had the “a-ha” moment that the more casual-seeming and fun the learning environment is, the less pushback I started receiving from my kids.

So here are 4 things I do EVERY day to start off our homeschool time with ease:

1. I lay out our @gathre mat to do our school on the floor (in the brightest room in our home) - kiddos have the option of sitting or laying while they learn in a more comfortable and casual way

2. SNACKS! We literally don’t do school without a snack and waters. I always lay out a mini charcuterie board for each kiddo (IKEA mini boards for the win). They can snack and learn at the same time - meeting their sensory needs and dodging the “I’m hungry” card mid-lesson.

3. I start our essential oil diffuser with a calming blend or focus blend depending on the kids’ emotions that day. My favorite calming blend lately has been Stress Away and Lavender + my favorite focus blend is Peppermint and Orange. All from Young Living, our favorite essential oil brand.

4. And finally we always start our learning time with reading a book - specifically our favorite fact book, Everything Under the Sun, that shares a new fact for every day of the year!

Cheers, mama 🤍
